Cuando me dijeron que tenia que ilustrar para un niño, lo primero que se me paso por la cabeza eran imagenes muy "kids" en plan pitufos y cosas asi, pero cuando conoci a este chico me di cuenta lo mucho que cambian las genereaciones. Se llama Gabriel, tiene 11 años, y para ser sicero, tenia las cosas tan claras como si fuera un cliente mayor; tiene un gusto muy definido; su idea al principio era dibujar a unos personajes de un videojuego...eso si, a mi estilo; me hace sentir bien que un niño de su edad sea muy objetivo con sus gustos; yo a su edad no lo tenia tan claro. En fin, le propuse que dibujaramos sus personajes en forma de totem de un modo mas decorativo sin que se viera claramente que son esos personajes que les gusta -porque algun dia se aburriria-, entonces se dio cuenta que podiamos hacer algo mas decorativo con mi toque. y aqui esta el trabajo, este es el resultado de varias horas, mucho vino y su madre encantada, me encanto esta familia.

Ayer tuve unos de esos dias de inspiracion, he estado trabajado un proyecto muy grafico y divertido para un cliente de Barcelona; precisamente ayer mi nivel de optimismo estaba por las nubes y me puse a esbozar lo que podia, eso es buena señal creo.

Precisamente ayer en mi momento de "euforia" artistica decidi reencontrarme con mi estilo mas sensual, con la figura humana; aproveche un trozo de madera que compre aqui en cartagena para dibujar sobre el.

Como se nota la diferencia cuando se vive en el caribe y cuando se vive en el mediterraneo; esto aqui es el verano eterno, el ventilador hace parte de la vida cotidiana, y los zumos son un deleite. Vuelvo a ver un mestizaje mas influenciado por los africanos, mucha piel negra y morena ypocos "rubios" con la piel roja de tanto sol.

Con este panorama y mi inspiracion a tope decidi dibujar una morena y el tipico pelo ensortijado.

me encantan los lapices de colores colombianos, son mas grasos da gusto colorear.

Estando aqui en Cartagena de Indias he podido aprovechar el tiempo para revisar todas las fotos que he tomado durante el verano; este año he notado evolucion en mi trabajo y tambien una identidad en mi estilo en todos los aspectos; aqui os muestro un resumen demasiado resumido en imagenes de estos ultimos meses:

el verano me ha servido para tener una mejor relacion con las acuarelas; se me resistian mucho, pero ahora estamos de amores.

Decidi probar mi dotes fotograficos arriesgandome a hacer street style, esta fue mi primera foto, color mostaza -tendencia de este verano- figura asiatica, muy fashion; eran razones para disparar mi camara. No es facil para mi hacer fotos a una desconocida y mas aun cuando estoy acostumbradisimo a tomarle a mi chica. Esta fue la prueba de fuego, lo hice muy cerca y sin tiempo a que ella se negara, pero fue un exito; ya estoy empezano a encontrarle el gustito.

Hace un par de meses que recibi una noticia que ha cambiado mi vida drasticamente, lamentablemente he perdido a dos seres muy queridos, mi hermano menor y mi madre, victimas de la violencia en mi pais natal, Colombia. Este incidente me ha mantenido alejado de mi pasion por ilustrar, sin embargo en momentos dificiles como estos me doy cuenta que la vida hay que aprovecharla al maximo y disfrutar cada dìa como si fuera el ultimo. Seguiré desarrollando mis proyectos de los cuales gracias a vuestro apoyo me ayudan a estar motivado para seguir adelante; asì que me instalare una pequeña temporada acompañando a mi padre y mi hermano aquì en Cartagena de Indias; mi ciudad natal, que me lo ha dado todo pero también me ha quitado mucho, aun asì quiero esta ciudad aunque mi corazon esta en Barcelona porque a pesar de que exista gente mala en el mundo no es una razon para dejar de creer en que todo puede mejorar. Gracias por todo.

Couple of moths ago my life changed 360 degrees, unfortunately i lost my lil' brother and my mom, there were victims of the violence in my natal city, Colombia. That's why i have been away; however this moment gives me a important lesson to my life, I see that I have to live everyday like it were your last so I will keep working in my projects. I'll stay a few moths in Cartagena de Indias -my natal city- supporting my brother and dad until they get better. Despite the bad people exist in the world we can still believing in the good ones, everything is gonna be better, though. Thanks people

Sigo en mi busqueda para acabar mi proyecto personal "wake up girl", he hecho decenas de bocetos y veo que voy encontrando el camino, estoy probando la posibilidad de crear mas profundidad usando desenfoques muy disimulados que sugieran volumen.

Este dibujo de arriba ha sido inspirado gracias a la foto de una amiga, por cierto, me encanta dibujar tatuajes en la figura humana, aquí podeis ver la foto.

Este puede ser un resultado que funcione, aunque sigo encontrando vacios.

Este de abajo es otro boceto que personalmente me agrada.

Hace un par de meses convocamos un sorteo a traves del blog www.herfashioncloset.in; cuyo premio consistia en hacer una ilustración de la ganadora. En este caso La ganadora fue una bloguera que vive en Belgica, se llama Alicia y este es su blog por si os da curiosidad verlo www.mundodealicia.com ahora su pemio debe estar en camino.

Basicamente lo que quize fue exteriorizar su personalidad a traves del dibujo, con un toque de surrealismo. Esta hecho con grafito y acuarela, mide 55 x 30cms. Luego os enseño mas fotos del proceso.

This month I made the cover illustration for "Bcn week newspaper" the theme is about "pasta", In spain pasta has two meanings, is the food obviously and money, so i placed those elements and i think the result is quiet well.

vinyl version

Do you remember the storefront window painting show i did last summer? well, this kind of tecnic can`t stay long, it was only for the show and has been replaced; the owner requested me to make the same illustration but in adhesive vinyl, so i designed it, is not exactly the same and thats what i did. It was placed the last week and i decided to make a visit to see how it looks my work and share it with you.

A client request me to make a painting in the saloon using my artwork style, she wanted to me draw some elements that represent barcelona, like the lamppost, the leaves for ex.

This painting project was made possible with the contribution of Karen Gomez, great artist with good manage of brushes.

Once she painted the frame I went to the salon to place it and paint the complete piece.

Contribution for LTD Edition x War Child

Months ago i was chosen and invited to be part of this awe inspiring concept that is to be the first wave of products designed with total focus on helping the Children in War zones and support War Child for their beautiful love they show these children.
The idea is to illustrate a t-shirt tha it will be sell soon.
The main inspiration to create the design was:
- Marvin Gaye’s song “What’s going on “
- Martin Luther King Jr “ War is not the Answer”
And then create artwork that reflects this mood in my very unique way, with humor, morbid feeling, kawaii but ultimately with your vigor to show your love, care and support for the children.

This illustrationi made calls "Share the love" and is an ode to the nature, love and joy.

Quien lo creyera, hace un par de dias me dijeron googlea "kikayis" y vaya sorpresa encontrar variedad de blogs y webs que hablaban de mi, debo reconocer que aun no me lo creo, pero se nota por el incremento de seguidores aqui y en mi fan page del facebook. Algunos me toman como referencia, como motivador de aquellos que se estan iniciando en la ilustración, otros me describen muy bien y otras webs incluso dicen que soy catalan :) ...ahora estoy mas motivado que antes y pronto publicaré mas cosas en las que estoy trabajando.
De momento os dejo algunas capturas de pantalla de las webs comentadas anteriormente

Y seleccionaron el que menos me esperaba, si, asi es, esta fue mi tercera propuesta para el concurso "Ten images for Ithaca" cuyo tema de este año es "Etiqueta"; He tenido la suerte de haber sido seleccionado entre los 150 (de 1700 participantes) y la verdad es que no esperaba que escogieran ese cartel ya que los otros dos eran mas originales(para mi punto de vista).
Este cartel lo hice en nombre de muchos colombianos que estan en Europa y se encuentran "etiquetados" de varias formas; a veces el simple hecho de haber nacido ahi significa que somos todas estas "etiquetas" que muestra el cartel y automáticamente se te juzga en muchos sentidos. Yo lo vivi recién llegado, pero poco a poco aprendes a tolerarlo y a entender que en parte es ignorancia y tambien la misma politica en general, obviamente no todos en Europa son asi, pero conozco casos muy tristes. Solo espero que este cartel sea lo bastante claro, que sepan lo que sentimos cada vez que queremos entrar a casi la total mayoria de los paises del mundo, no es cuestion de criticar, solo una forma de expresion grafica como lo es un cartel.

Ahora tengo la posibilidad de poder ganar, todo depende del jurado; aunque en esta edición tengo la posibilidad de ser ganador en la categoria SELECCION DEL PUBLICO hecha por Absolut Vodka (el vodka de toda la vida) y cuento contigo para que gane el mio.

Finally i was selected to be finalist of "Ten images for Ithaca", yes it is, it was my third option i submitted. remember that the theme of this year is "Label". And i cant believe i´ve been lucky to be selected betwen 1700 participants.
and to be honest, i didnt expect they chose this poster, since the other two were more originals (its my point of view) This poster is made on behalf of many Colombians who are in Europe and are "labeled" in many ways, sometimes the simple fact of being colombian means we are all these "labels" that shows the poster and will automatically be judged many ways.
I lived just arrived, but gradually learn to tolerate and understand it, is partly also the same ignorance and politics in general, obviously not everyone in Europe is like this, but I know very sad cases. I just hope this poster is sufficiently clear, and show how we feel every time we want to go or enter almost full most of the countries of the world, is not a question of criticizing, only one form of graphic expression.

Now i have the chance to win, everything depends on the jury, although in this edition I have the chance to be winner in "ABSOLUT People's Choice Award" (vodka lifetime) and rely on you to earn mine.
